OuR Company histoRy

It started with a great cup of coffee, as many success stories do.

In 1886, the prestigious Hotel Del Monte in Monterey, California introduced the world to Del Monte Coffee, a premium coffee specifically blended for hotel guests. The coffee must have been potent, because the company quickly grew to a globally recognized brand with a reputation for high standards and fair practices.

1886

The brand is born

In 1886, Del Monte Coffee premiered as a premium blend of coffee packaged exclusively for the prestigious Hotel Del Monte in Monterey, California.

1968

Fresh growth

In 1968, Del Monte Corporation acquires the West Indies Tropical Fruit Company of Coral Gables, Florida.

1989

Del Monte times two

In 1989, Del Monte Corporation divides into two separate entities: Del Monte Tropical Fruit and Del Monte Foods.

1993

Call us fresh

In 1993, Del Monte Tropical Fruit changes its name to Fresh Del Monte Produce N.V.

1996

The gold standard

In 1996, the Del Monte Gold® Extra Sweet Pineapple was introduced, becoming an instant hit. People insist on it because it’s twice as sweet and has such beautiful, golden fruit.

2011

Meet the MAG Melon

In 2011, MAG® Melons were developed to meet demand for a melon delivering consistent quality, flavor and aroma. The MAG® Melon has a more pleasant and concentrated aroma compared to traditional cantaloupes, and has a sweet flavor and juicy texture.

2018

Introducing the Honeyglow Pineapple

In 2018, we developed the Honeyglow® pineapple, allowing it to mature naturally on the plant for a few precious extra days. We then hand select each one to ensure a high shell color, delighting people who associate ripe, premium pineapples with a bright, golden shell.

2020

Jewel of the Jungle

After 16 years in the making, we launched our Pinkglow® pineapple in 2020. This Jewel of the Jungle® is produced in ultra-limited harvests, uniquely and specially grown by our expert growers and is found to be both juicier and sweeter than a traditional pineapple. With a delicious and completely unique taste, this pineapple boasts notes of candy aromatics and is sure to delight consumers of all ages.

2021

Melon Made Perfect

In 2021, we relaunched our MAG.nificent® Melon. The MAG.nificent® Melon provides consumers with consistency and takes the guesswork out of purchasing cantaloupes. Each melon meets the highest standards for appearance, flavor, texture and aroma.

2021

More Sweet Surprises

In 2021, we expanded our Honeyglow® brand to include Honeyglow® melons. Hand selected to ensure top quality and the sweetest taste, these melons have a consitent summer-time cantaloupe aroma and a sweet flavor.

2022

Goodness Comes in All Sizes

This year brought the arrival of Goodvocado™ avocados, the newest way for consumers to purchase various sizes of avocados all in one pack. Featuring avocados that naturally range from small to large, Goodvocado™ packs allow consumers to customize their use of avocados, ultimately helping them discover new ways to incorporate avocados into their everyday cuisine.

2022

A Record Breaking Year

In 2022, we broke the world record for the World’s Largest Fruit Display. Sanctioned as an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS®, the display, constructed from more than 77,000 pounds of DEL MONTE® bananas, was set at Jewel-Osco in Westmont, IL, located at 4 East Ogden Avenue. Following the record break, the bananas were given away to customers, with the remaining then donated to the Northern Illinois Food Bank, a member of Feeding America®, serving communities in 13 surrounding counties.
