Del Monte Gold® Pineapples are only harvested when they reach the peak of ripeness. We use scientific field tasting to check for the optimum sugar/acid balance prior to harvesting. The shell color of the pineapple is not an indicator of ripeness; the pulp or fruit color and sugar content are a better indicator. At home, always keep your pineapple in the refrigerator or any cold, humid place. And since it won’t ripen any further, try to use it as soon as possible. Fresh pineapples will last in your refrigerator 2-4 days after being cut, and if you store whole pineapples in the fridge, they’ll last 3-5 days.

  1. Twist the crown off.
  2. Cut in half, then quarters.
  3. Trim off the ends and core.
  4. Remove the fruit from the shell.
  5. Cut into bite-size pieces.
  6. Enjoy!

If you see a mysterious number on your pineapple tag such as a 5, 6, 7, or 8, it simply represents the size of your pineapple. A number 6 pineapple had 6 pineapples in a box when delivered to the store. Therefore, the smaller the number, the bigger the pineapple. This is no indication of quality or taste, simply the size. Enjoy!

We don’t recommend freezing fresh pineapple because it tends to lose some of its flavor. If you do choose to freeze your pineapple, once it’s cut and stored in an airtight plastic bag or container, it can be frozen for up to 3 months.

  1. Press your fingers and thumbs into the skin from all angles. A good watermelon should be hard all around.
  2. Give it a few taps with your knuckles or the pads of your fingers. A winning watermelon will typically have a slight hollow sound.
  3. Look for mean green. Dark shades of green typically indicate an optimal combination of sun and water while the watermelon was growing.

It’s an absorbent pad used to soak up the excess juices that are naturally exuded by the fruit. It is paper based, FDA approved and perfectly safe. The materials used are food grade and are chosen because they contain no chemicals that could migrate to the product. Using the pad helps the integrity of the product, cushioning the fruit during transportation and keeping it from breaking down in its own juices. You can always take the pad out after purchase and drink the juices produced thereafter.
